The ultimate Australian holiday in Sydney

Monday, 13 January 2018 5:31 PM

Located on Australia's south-east coast, the city of Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales and is one of the busiest tourist attractions on the planet.

Every year, millions of travellers from around the world flock to this cultural hotspot for a taste of Australian culture. The magic of Sydney is that there really is something for everybody, with families, older people and young partygoers enjoying their own unique and exciting holiday.

But after arriving in this diverse and stunning urban paradise, tourists may find themselves feeling a little overwhelmed by the amount of choice on offer, which means they attempt to cram too many activities into too short a break.

Read on for TravelUp's bucket list guide of things you must do in Sydney before flying home - and rest assured, there really is something for everyone!

Learn to surf

The city of Sydney is renowned for its sandy beaches, which draw millions of visitors from around the world every year. While it may be nice enough sat watching the surfers tackle the waves, why not get stuck in on the action yourself?

Manly Surf School allows people of all ages to do that, either taking lessons in private or joining a small group where you can show off your talents to your friends and family. As part of the classes, you will pick up on the basic rules - such as how to stand up on the board - as well as a wealth of information about surf etiquette.

Get to grips with the Rocks

If you like to go off the beaten track during your holidays, then familiarise yourself with the city of Sydney with a pub crawl in the Rocks. This area is located on the southern shore of the Harbour, immediately north-west of the central business district.

Tourists who are travelling with a group of friends or in a couple may want to while away the hours in one of the city's many bars and nightspots. A pub crawl through the Rocks area is the perfect way to do this, start at the Hero of Waterloo then make your way downhill.

Visit the Bondi markets

The Bondi markets are an ideal location to make the most of the Australian culture, while picking up a bargain at a lower price than some of the city's other retail spots. Some big local designers also sold their items at this cultural hub - including Pete vs Toby and Lover, who had stalls here before becoming household names.

If you're feeling tired after a day of hustle and bustle in the markets, then don't fret. The shopping site is just a stone's throw away from the world famous Bondi Beach, so head to the waves for a cooldown.

Bondi to Coogee coastal walk

Catch a glimpse of some of Sydney's best coastal views on this world famous trek. This should be one of the priorities on your Australian bucket list. Most travellers head down the Bondi-to-Bronte route, but feel free to get to grips with other, less populated areas.

During this trip, you can also sample some of Australia's finest wines, while stopping off at restaurants for a well-earned feast. Whether you're travelling through Gordon's Bay or on the quieting waters of Clovelly, this is not an opportunity to be missed - just make sure you remember your camera!
