Horse racing fans given golden opportunity

Monday, 5 March 2014 3:03 PM

Horse-racing fans are being given a unique chance to get up and personal with their favourite sport. The Montpellier Chapter is launching a 'behind the scenes' tour, to mark Cheltenham Gold Cup Festival on Friday 16th March.

The Gold Cup Festival is the annual climax of the entire Jump racing season - six races centered around one big one. This year, Long Run and Sam Waley-Cohen attempt to defend their crown against Kauto Star and Ruby Walsh, the leading Festival jockey of all time.

The Montpellier Chapter racing tour will begin with a glimpse into the life of a top trainer - by taking an early morning trip to the stables of racing guru Kim Bailey. Kim Bailey has trained nearly 1,000 horses and is the only trainer to have achieved the magical ‘Big Three’ – a win at The Grand National, The Cheltenham Gold Cup and The Champion Hurdle.

During the visit, guests will be able to watch Kim put his horses through their paces as they train at Thorndale Farm near Andoversford, which is set in 1,000 acres of Cotswold countryside. Visitors will also receive a private tour of the hillside estate and have the chance to question Kim about his life as a racehorse trainer.

The Kim Bailey package is available throughout the year (excluding July and August) and rates start from £199 based on two people sharing a Deluxe Room.

The Montpellier Chapter Hotel is located in a grade-II listed building, in the chic Montpellier area of Cheltenham. The hotel is run by James Partridge, who previously worked at The Savoy and for Gordon Ramsey Holdings.
